Restaurants and Attractions Near Orleans Marina

One of the advantages of boating into Orleans Marina is that the experience does not have to end when you step off the dock.

Located in the historic West End area along Lake Pontchartrain, the marina puts visiting boaters close to waterfront dining, parks, neighborhood attractions, and some unexpected pieces of New Orleans history.

For boaters spending a night, a weekend, or a little longer in the city, Orleans Marina provides a convenient starting point for adventures both on and off the water.

Start with the Lakefront

You do not have to head downtown to begin exploring. The lakefront has its own collection of restaurants, gathering spots, and places to enjoy the scenery.

West End is a natural first stop. The neighborhood has long been associated with dining and recreation along Lake Pontchartrain, making it easy to transition from a day on the boat to dinner near the water. Seafood, oysters, casual Louisiana favorites, and waterfront views can all be found within the surrounding lakefront area.

Nearby West End Park offers another reason to stay close to the marina for a while. Its green space and waterfront setting make it a pleasant place for a walk, some time outdoors, or simply taking in views of the lake before heading to your next destination.

Boaters can also venture east along the lakefront toward South Shore Harbor, where another collection of waterfront dining options offers a chance to enjoy a meal while staying connected to the scenery that brought you to New Orleans by boat in the first place.

Have Breakfast at an Airport

One of the more unexpected attractions near the lake is New Orleans Lakefront Airport. Even if you are not an aviation enthusiast, the building itself is worth a look. Originally opened in 1934, the restored terminal features classic Art Deco design, period architectural details, murals, and artwork including friezes by noted sculptor Enrique Alferez.

The airport is also home to Messina’s Runway Cafe, where breakfast or lunch comes with a view of aircraft taking off and landing on the working runway. The menu leans into New Orleans favorites such as shrimp and grits, along with diner-style lunches, Blue Plate Specials, burgers, sandwiches, and Louisiana seafood.

It is the kind of distinctly New Orleans detour that can turn a simple breakfast outing into part of the day’s sightseeing.

Spend an Afternoon in City Park

From the lakefront, City Park is another easy addition to the itinerary. The expansive park offers walking paths, lagoons, gardens, recreational areas, and plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors beneath its signature live oaks.

The New Orleans Museum of Art sits within the park, along with the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, where art, landscaping, lagoons, and mature trees create an attraction that can easily fill part of an afternoon.

And because this is New Orleans, sightseeing can include a food stop too. Grab beignets and café au lait in the park before continuing on to another part of the city.

Head Into the Heart of New Orleans

Of course, staying at Orleans Marina also puts the city’s best-known neighborhoods and attractions within reach.

The French Quarter offers historic architecture, restaurants, galleries, shops, Jackson Square, and some of the city’s most recognizable sights. Frenchmen Street is a favorite for live music, while neighborhoods beyond the Quarter provide everything from museums and historic homes to cocktail bars and some of New Orleans’ most celebrated restaurants.

That flexibility is part of the appeal of arriving by boat. Spend the morning around the lake, explore City Park in the afternoon, and still make your way downtown for dinner and music that evening.

See More of New Orleans from the Marina

New Orleans has always been shaped by the water, so arriving by boat offers a fitting way to experience the city. Orleans Marina provides access to Lake Pontchartrain while placing dining, outdoor recreation, architecture, history, and the city’s best-known attractions within reach.

Stay close to the lakefront or venture farther into New Orleans. Either way, there is plenty waiting beyond the dock.

Reserve your slip at Orleans Marina and make the city part of your next boating destination.
